airplanes are shiny! i like shiny objects! This is part three of my epic journal from my trip to San Jose.  Check out part one and part two.

It has become clear that the airplane will not be filled to capacity.  I had expected to be sandwiched between two other passengers, but I am thrilled that able to slide over to the vacant window seat.   I could care less about sitting by the window, for I am not a child.  However, I am happy that an empty seat separates me and the man to my left, creating a buffer zone of personal space.

I fail to understand why pilots feel it necessary to announce their name and the copilot’s name before takeoff.  Perhaps individuals that travel frequently make note the names for future reference.

“Captain John Stevenson?  Oh, he’s good!  I’m a big fan of his work!”

airplanes are shiny! i like shiny objects!I find air travel to be a terribly dreadful experience.

I am not bothered by the inevitable delays or security hassles, as they are minor inconveniences.  Likewise, I do not fear flying in an airplane.

As a devoted cigarette smoker, the notion of being trapped inside a phallic metal tube for hours, completely unable to smoke, is utterly terrifying.  To a heavy smoker, air travel requires the patience of a Buddhist monk.

While flying, I will inevitability experience extreme symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.  Upon disembarking, I will frantically run through the airport, trembling and sweating, in search of the nearest exit.  I will burst through the doors, luggage in tow and cigarette in mouth, lighting my prized cancer stick as quickly as possible.

airplanes are shiny! i love shiny objects! It recently occurred to me that air travel is terribly inconvenient.

I do not travel often.  It has been about four years since I have been on an airplane, so I am not familiar with the latest batch of regulations designed to keep us safe and the filthy, godless terrorists at bay.

My company is sending me to visit a client on the west coast next week.  I am excited for my trip to the Silicon Valley: the land where dreams are made and bubbles occasionally burst.

I have never been to California, so I am quite excited about my trip to San Jose, a city whose name translates to “Without Jose.”
